92 Percent of Top Startups are B2B

The Wall Street Journal unveiled its third annual ranking of the top 50 U.S. companies backed by venture capital—a list that attempts to identify start-ups that could become the “Next Big Thing.”

Out of all 50 startups, only 4 or 5 are B2C companies. Over 90% of the top startups are B2B, with a heavy emphasis of biomedical tech, hardware, and business services.

The few B2C companies that did make the cut:
RockMelt Inc. a social web browser (don’t know why this is on the list. Whatever happened to Flock?
The Cheezburger Network – I can haz million?!!
Chegg Inc. – textbook rental service
